Yutong powers into the UK with the Paccar MX11 Engine
Yutong, the world’s largest coach and bus manufacturer has confirmed it will enter the UK and Ireland market in co-operation with Pelican, which will act as it’s sole importer and distributor.
The first Yutong for the British market is the 12 metre ZK6129H 53 seat coach powered by the Paccar/DAF MX11 Euro 6 engine driving through a ZF automatic gearbox and Meritor axles.
Based in the central Chinese city of Zhengzhou, Yutong built 51,688 vehicles in 2012 at its two factories, each one the size of a large industrial estate in the UK and employing 30,000 people between them. Yutong currently holds 12% of the global market and has the capacity to produce 70,000 passenger-carrying vehicles per year.
The agreement was signed in September 2013 at the Yutong head office by Ken Grindrod of Pelican and Eric He, Sales Manager for Europe and North America. Eric He predicts that Chinese buses will come to dominate the world market saying “We are preparing for the future. With Pelican we are making a serious investment in buses and coaches. We intend to give our customers the service support they deserve”.
